The Joys of Motherhood...

Oh, the joys of motherhood.

Kaiya and Emmie were in the backyard yesterday with their friend, Eva. I was looking out the window to check on them periodically, and after a while realized that they had all just been standing at the top of the playhouse for a while and didn't seem to be doing much of anything. I went out to check on them, and they were watching our neighbors over the fence. These neighbors have a couple of teenage boys, and the boys were out in the backyard doing some landscaping with their shirts off. All these little girls were watching very intently. Kaiya was muttering, "Those boys aren't very modest" and Eva was nodding her head in agreement. Still, they were just staring at them. I told the girls to slide or swing or do something fun and leave the poor boys alone.

A few minutes later Emmie came running into the house and said, "Mama, those boys talk to me!"

"Oh, what did they say?" I replied.

"They ask me how I doing. I say I good."

"Well, that's nice." I said. "Are they nice boys?"

"Yea" Emmie said. They riddy (really) nice. I ask that boy if he has baby in tummy like my mommy."

"You WHAT?" I said.

She then repeated that she had asked our poor neighbor if he has a baby in his tummy. Now, this boy is a little on the...husky....side and I'm just praying that he wasn't able to understand her garbled three-year-old English enough to get what she was saying.

Kaiya, on the other hand, is very concerned about my ever-decreasing sanity. Lately I'm misplacing everything and dropping everything and (as is typical for me at the end of pregnancy) slowly losing my mind. I was looking for something yesterday that was right in front of my face, and as Kaiya watched my frantic search she asked, "Mommy, what's wrong?"

"Mommy's just going crazy." I said.

She then handed me what I was searching for and very slowly, as if speaking to a less-than-stable person said, "Don't worry Mommy. I'll help you."

Awww.
