We Need a Little Christmas...

Ever since I was little I have LOVED the Christmas season. As the years have gone by, of course my perceptions have changed, but now I love it just as much because I get to experience it with my children.

As always, we put our "Christmas Village" up the day after Thanksgiving. Dennis and I have been buying a couple pieces a year since we got married, and for the last couple of years we've had to spread it out to two seperate locations. My goal is to eventually have enough that I can give each of my daughters a few pieces when they grow up and have families of their own. Anyway, I love my little village, and the girls always think it's really exciting to get it all unpacked and displayed.

Last night for FHE, we went out and bought a tree. It has taken a lot of convincing from Dennis, but I finally do have to agree that a real tree is the way to go. I think a fake one would be a lot less bother, but my house smells so yummy and Christmasy today, all the struggle from last night seems worth it.

Anyway, we went out and bought a tree (after going to three different locations), then brought it home and decorated. Every year this consists of Dennis laying under the tree trying to get it in the stand and yelling "Is it straight?!?" and grumbling and cursing, while I push it this way and that. This tree gave us particular problems, but we finally got it. Then it was time to test all the lights and untangle them from the heap they were left in last year. It took us longer to just get the tree up and get the lights on it than we had imagined it would, but after Dennis had recovered his good nature, we set to decorating.

The girls had such fun! Claire kept hanging ornaments in one specific place and saying, "TA DA! 'Nother one!" I had to keep 'em coming, and then Dennis would sneak them away from her special spot and spread them a little more evenly over the tree.

At the end, Claire put the star on top of the tree. The first thing she said when she came downstairs this morning was, "There's my star!"

Hayden started out happy as could be, but ended up tired and cranky, and furious to not be the center of attention..

It was hard work, but so much fun! The older the girls get, the more exciting it is to have these little traditions to enjoy with them. They already have a count-down going for Christmas!

Oh how fun to have a real tree, growing up that is all we ever had, maybe we will have to come over and smell it since we are a fake tree family now! What fun memories for your kids and your village is adorable!

Real trees do smell the best! What a lovely FHE, I have the grownup trees and then the kids tree....worst mom of the year award, but I'm a little nuts.
