Family Scripture Study...

A few nights ago, we were reading the Book of Mormon as a family. We've been trying to make this more of a habit, and it's been great to see what our kids can understand and how much they really are taking in. Anyway, we try to give all the kids a chance to "read" a verse or two, which means we tell them what to say and they repeat us since none of them can read on their own yet.

Picture this: I was on the couch with my legs stretched out. I was holding Hayden, and I had both Emmie and Claire sitting on my legs. Kaiya was on the other side of the couch sitting with Dennis.

It was Emmie's turn to read a verse, so I was telling her line-by-line what to say. As she was reading, both she and Claire were inching closer and closer to me and Hayden. They were leaning right in Hayden's face and each one of them were trying to find a spot to cuddle up on my chest. I was feeling more and more claustrophobic by the second. I got to a point in the verse where I had just had Emmie say, "And Alma said" then in exasperation I said, "Emmie, back it on up!" Kaiya's eyes got wide and she said, "Alma said back it on up?" Emmie thought it was hilarious.

Dennis says we are now apparently teaching them scriptures in Eubonics.

Ok, that is just funny. I can totally see Kaiya's confused face when you said that!

what a funny story! It seems like scripture study is usually that way for us too!

Hilarious! It can be difficult doing scripture study with young children but SO worth it! I am really glad we started from day one, we haven't been perfect, but the kids know the routine and now they seem to really know the scriptures, I'm seeing some of the rewards! Keep it up, you guys are awesome!
